Cameroon and UNFPA are opening a new chapter in a partnership going back more than fifty years. The ninth Country Programme Document (CPD9), with an indicative budget of $45 million for 2027-2031, was approved on August 27, 2025 by the agency's executive board in New York.
The program rests on three pillars: quality of care and reproductive health, gender equality and women's empowerment, and reliable demographic data to inform public policy.
It was drawn up in coordination between the Ministry of Economy, Planning and Regional Development, the Ministry of External Relations and several other line ministries, explicitly aligned with Cameroon's National Development Strategy (SND30) and the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework for 2027-2031.
As a sign of the importance placed on the partnership, Cameroon is providing UNFPA with new premises to facilitate the program's implementation on the ground.
For Cameroonian women and girls, the most direct stake remains access to reproductive health care and the fight against gender-based violence — an issue that directly overlaps with challenges already well documented in Cameroon's legislative record.
CPD9's success will be measured less by its budget than by its ability to produce, by 2031, demographic data that Cameroonian administrations can actually use to adjust their social policies.
