Apple unveiled three new iPhones on September 9: the 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, extending the classic lineup, and the iPhone Duo — its first-ever foldable — during a keynote titled "Surprise and shine" led by John Ternus. The announcement also corrected several leaked renders that had circulated under the wrong name "iPhone Fold", at prices quite different from what those unofficial renders showed.
Under the hood, all three models share the same A20 Pro chip, built on TSMC's 2-nanometer process. Paired with a dual 16-core Neural Engine, Apple says it doubles AI processing speed over the previous generation, while the 7-core GPU gains up to 40% over the A19 Pro — helped by a new vapor chamber roughly three times more effective at dissipating heat.
On the 18 Pro and Pro Max, the 48-megapixel Fusion main sensor gains a variable aperture driven by six metal blades, ranging from f/1.48 to f/4 depending on the scene. The touch-based Capture control gives way to an actual physical button, and the Dynamic Island shrinks to free up screen space. The Pro Max, thicker and heavier (249 grams) to fit a larger battery and that new vapor chamber, is rated for up to 45 hours of video playback, versus 36 hours for the 18 Pro.
On the foldable side, the iPhone Duo opens up to a 7.6-inch Super Retina XDR display — the largest ever on an iPhone, roughly 50% bigger than the 18 Pro Max's — and folds down to a 5.4-inch outer screen. Its grade-5 titanium chassis, available in star white and midnight blue, shows no visible crease, Apple says, thanks to a new hinge treatment.
Its camera system pairs a 48-megapixel Fusion main module (26mm, f/1.6, sensor-shift stabilization) with a 52mm f/1.6 telephoto and a 13mm f/2.2 ultra-wide with a 120-degree field of view. A dual-battery architecture fills both halves of the chassis, promising up to 44 hours of video playback on the outer screen. Another radical break: the iPhone Duo drops the physical SIM tray entirely, even in countries where the standard iPhone still keeps one, running on eSIM only worldwide.
In the US, the iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199 for 256GB and climbs to $2,399 for 2TB — a capacity new to the Pro line — the Pro Max ranges from $1,299 to $2,499, and the iPhone Duo starts at $1,999.
In France, prices run from €1,479 to €2,979 for the 18 Pro, €1,629 to €3,129 for the Pro Max, and €2,339 to €3,839 for the Duo depending on storage. Pre-orders for both Pro models open September 12, with availability from the 18th; the iPhone Duo follows a separate calendar, with pre-orders only opening October 16 for an October 23 release.
Converted at the CFA franc's fixed peg to the euro (€1 = 655.957 FCFA), the French prices come to roughly 970,000 FCFA for the entry-level 18 Pro, 1,069,000 FCFA for the Pro Max, and 1,534,000 FCFA for the iPhone Duo. That figure stays theoretical, since Apple has no official retail presence in Cameroon or the CEMAC zone: iPhones there pass through independent importers in Douala and Yaoundé, whose price grids run well above a simple conversion once customs fees and margins are added — an iPhone 16 Pro Max already sells there for between 800,000 and over 1,200,000 FCFA in 2026.
The real shift this fall isn't in the Pro lineup, updated without a clean break from the past, but in the gap with the foldable: €710 separates the entry-level 18 Pro Max from the entry-level iPhone Duo in France — more than the launch price of a base iPhone 16.
