Mohamed Salah opened his Süper Lig account in style. The Egyptian forward, signed by Trabzonspor this summer, scored twice on Saturday, August 23, 2026 against İstanbul Başakşehir, giving his club a 2-1 win in matchday 2 of the Turkish league.
Salah opened the scoring in the 9th minute before restoring Trabzonspor's lead in the 49th, just after half-time. In between, Eldor Shomurodov had equalised from the penalty spot in the 20th minute, after a handball by Chibuike Nwaiwu in the box.
André Onana, starting in goal for Trabzonspor, also held his own to protect the lead late in the match.
With this win, Trabzonspor confirms a solid start to the season, with European ambitions carried by the Onana-Salah duo. The club will next face FC Basel in the Europa Conference League play-off — a real test of its progress.
For Cameroon, Onana's consistency at club level reinforces his status as the Indomitable Lions' number-one goalkeeper ahead of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
