Algeria and Kenya, two African nations with rapidly modernizing healthcare systems, have decided to step up their cooperation in strategic areas. This initiative is part of a broader continental effort to reduce reliance on foreign medical technology and improve access to care.
Africa's healthcare sector faces major challenges, particularly in combating cancer, training medical professionals, and integrating new technologies. An official meeting between Algerian and Kenyan representatives took place in August 2024 to deepen healthcare ties. Priority areas include oncology, nuclear medicine, and the integration of artificial intelligence into medical practices. Kenya's ambassador to Algeria expressed his country's keen interest in expanded collaboration, particularly regarding cancer treatment. Discussions focused on concrete projects to pool medical expertise and infrastructure, coming at a time when Kenya recently signed a $3.5 billion agreement with the United States to bolster its health system.
