On June 23, 2026, the hall of the Douala Convention Center resonated with the words of GECAM President Célestin Tawamba. Speaking at the group's ordinary general assembly, he subjected the country to an unflinching analysis, reminding that today's economic world is decided by speed of execution and reliability of commitments.
He began with a bleak assessment: “the disastrous state of our economy” is the starting point of a reflection that goes beyond a simple diagnosis. In a context where economies fiercely compete to attract capital, talent and technology, he stressed that the quality of governance is now the decisive competitiveness criterion.
“Investors look at infrastructure, energy supply and its cost, taxation,” he recalled, before adding that the most decisive factor remains a country's ability to decide, to execute and to keep its commitments. This triple requirement—decision, execution, consistency—is meant to be the new foundation on which Cameroon must rely to attract foreign capital.
The GECAM president then inverted the traditional question. “The real question now is: how to act faster? how to act better? and above all how to achieve measurable results?” He called for a shift from diagnosis time to execution time, from intentions to achievements, and from promises to concrete results.
In this perspective, GECAM positions itself as a leading actor, promising to contribute with responsibility, independence and patriotism. He affirmed that Cameroon’s economic future will be decided on this ground, where the will to act will replace idle rhetoric.
For Cameroonian entrepreneurs, the diaspora and existing investors, the message is clear: waiting for reforms is no longer enough; tangible actions are required. The country's ability to secure energy supply, ease taxation and guarantee project continuity becomes the decisive criterion for any new capital injection.
Ultimately, Tawamba's speech draws the front line of a much‑awaited transformation. He urges authorities, private partners and civil society to converge on rapid, measurable and sustainable execution. The challenge is immense, but the promise of a Cameroon that decides rather than waits paves the way for a more resilient economic dynamism and a future where promises finally translate into concrete results.
