The 2026 CANEX Prize for Publishing carries a total endowment of $25,000: $15,000 for the winner and $2,500 for each of four finalists. This second edition rewards general-interest books published in Africa over the past year.

The jury is chaired by Professor Raji-Oyelade, who praised the richness of African publishing and its diaspora. Submissions were open from May 14 to June 30, 2026; a first shortlist of ten publishers will be announced in September, followed by five finalists in October.

The awards ceremony will take place at CANEX WKND 2026, held November 6-9 at the National Theatre in Lagos, Nigeria — an event run by Afreximbank to celebrate the continent's creative industries since 2024.

For francophone Africa, this prize remains a relatively rare showcase: French-language publishing is structurally less visible than English-language output on the pan-African stage.

Cameroonian publishers such as Éditions Clé or Ifrikiya could use the platform to widen their audience — provided they actively submit entries, since the prize works only through publishers putting themselves forward.

At a time when Africa's creative industries are searching for funding channels, the CANEX publishing prize remains modest in size but significant in symbolic reach: continent-wide recognition for a sector too often left to fend for itself.
