From Courbevoie, in France, a Cameroonian diaspora association launched an appeal for solidarity on 25 July on behalf of more than 250 children. Un Cœur Qui Agit, founded in September 2024 by Nicole Fichant, targets displaced children from South-West Cameroon now living on the outskirts of Douala.

In recent years, these families fled violence linked to the conflict affecting that region. They now live in makeshift housing, in extremely precarious sanitary conditions — a displacement that, for the children, compounds the uncertainty around schooling.

The 2026-2027 campaign has a very concrete target: back-to-school equipment — school supply kits, uniforms, bags, shoes, an expense many of these families simply can no longer afford — along with educational support.

The association gave no fundraising target for this campaign, stating only that donations go through its secure platform. A warning accompanies the appeal: any request for money made in its name outside that channel should be treated as fraudulent.

The initiative illustrates a now-common mode of action within the Cameroonian diaspora: small structures, run from Europe by volunteers, targeting a specific, documented need rather than raising funds for a general cause.

As with any campaign of this kind, the follow-up question remains: how many children will actually be equipped by the start of the school year, and for how long the association can sustain this support beyond the initial gesture.
