Aston Villa have made enquiries with Bayer Leverkusen about Christian Kofane, the 20-year-old Cameroon international. The German club, who signed him a year ago from Albacete, have no intention of letting him go before the window closes.

Last season, Kofane made 29 Bundesliga appearances, scoring 5 goals and providing 4 assists, on top of 11 Champions League appearances. Significant playing time for a still-young player, confirming his rapid progress in Germany.

Aston Villa are not the only club to have made enquiries: Chelsea and Newcastle have also been mentioned among the suitors before the English transfer deadline.

For Leverkusen, holding on to such a promising player, recently signed and still under contract, fits a strategy of medium-term value-building rather than a hasty sale.

For Cameroon, the interest confirms Kofane's status as one of the young talents to watch in the current generation of Indomitable Lions, at a time when several English clubs are already tracking other Cameroonian players in Europe.

The move is off the table for now on the German side — but interest from several Premier League heavyweights suggests Kofane could become a transfer subject again as soon as winter or next summer.
