Étienne Eto'o, a forward born in Palma de Mallorca in 2002, has changed clubs without leaving Spain: Rayo Vallecano has loaned him to Racing Club Ferrol, a Primera RFEF side, Spain's third tier, for the 2026-2027 season.
This new loan confirms a career that has struggled to take off since his professional debut with the Franjirrojos. Last season, he was already loaned out twice away from Rayo's first team: first to CD Mirandés in Segunda División, then to Villarreal B, also in Primera RFEF. Neither spell gave him the continuity he was looking for.
At Ferrol, a historic Galician club that has spent several seasons in the third division, the stated goal is simple: regular playing time, something that has eluded him since turning professional. The Galician club is banking on his attacking profile to push for the top of its group.
The Eto'o name remains tied to Cameroon through his father, Samuel Eto'o, a four-time African Footballer of the Year and the current president of the Cameroonian Football Federation. Étienne has represented Cameroon's youth national teams, including a brace against Mozambique at the 2021 U20 Africa Cup of Nations. He has not yet been called up to the senior Indomitable Lions squad.
On the pitch, this Primera RFEF spell looks like a gamble: build up enough match rhythm to eventually return to Spain's top flight, or convince a national team coach to give him a chance. For now, the next chapter of his career is being written in Galicia.
