On 3 September 2026, Kansas City Current made official what Cameroon's women's football transfer market had been expecting since late summer: the signing of 19-year-old Myriam Maëva Nyadjou from Amazone FAP. The Indomitable Lionesses' centre-back joins the Missouri club through the 2029 season, pending her P-1 visa for elite athletes. She will play in the National Women's Soccer League, the top flight of US women's football, as soon as she arrives.
Her name broke through in a matter of weeks, on the back of a 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations that ended on 16 August with a first continental title for Cameroon: a 3-0 win over Malawi in the final. Nyadjou came out of it named the tournament's Best Young Player and made the Team of the Tournament alongside three other Lionesses. At 19, the defender scored a decisive free-kick against Nigeria in the quarter-finals, then shut down her box against hosts Morocco in the semi-final.
The destination is no small deal. Kansas City Current has established itself among the NWSL's heavyweights, and its roster includes Temwa Chawinga, the tournament's top scorer with five goals for Malawi — the very opponent Nyadjou faced in that 16 August final. Two rivals from one night become teammates.
The route is worth noting for what it says about Cameroonian women's football: Nyadjou moves straight from the Guinness Super League, the domestic championship, to the American elite, with no European stop along the way. Specialist media describe her as the first Cameroonian player to take that path. It's also, indirectly, a vindication of FECAFOOT's work building the women's game: the professional league it set up is now producing an export to one of the most competitive championships in the world.
For the Indomitable Lionesses, the payoff plays out over the medium term. Training every week at this level, at 19, inside a club used to NWSL's demands, is worth several seasons of accelerated learning — and the national team gains a more experienced, more exposed defensive pairing two years out from the next AFCON. Cameroon's rising generation now has a concrete precedent: the domestic league can lead straight to the world's top flight, with no obligatory detour through Europe.
One administrative step remains, and it will decide her actual arrival date: the P-1 visa. With the NWSL season winding down, her full integration into Kansas City Current's roster is instead expected for the 2027 campaign.
