The summer transfer window closed without any move for Karl Etta Eyong. Despite interest shown by several European clubs throughout the summer, the 22-year-old Cameroon international striker stayed at Levante, where he will begin his second full season in La Liga.
The final episode of this saga played out in Valencia. Levante's sporting director, Héctor Rodas, explained that the neighbouring club had asked about the player's situation but never followed through. "They ask me for information, then they don't call back," he said, confirming that Valencia's approach never went beyond an exploratory contact.
Rodas also acknowledged that Levante was not opposed in principle to a sale, with the club needing to "do a bit of selling" to cash in on some of its assets. But according to him, several enquiries from Spain, England and Germany never turned into an offer serious enough to convince Etta Eyong to leave.
In France, Olympique Lyonnais had at one point identified the Cameroonian forward as an option to strengthen its attack, with a valuation of around €15 million reported in the specialist press. The Rhône club ultimately opted for a different profile, confirming the signing of attacking midfielder Keito Nakamura from Reims, which put an end to talks over Etta Eyong.
In England, interest from Sunderland had also circulated, though the Black Cats made any move conditional on the departure of Dutch forward Brian Brobbey. As Brobbey did not leave the club before the window closed, that route never materialised.
Signed by Levante from Villarreal in summer 2025 for around €3 million on a contract running until June 2029, Etta Eyong delivered a first full season with 7 goals and 4 assists in La Liga. His release clause, reported at around £26 million in the English press, combined with the player's own wish to stay, was enough to deter suitors before the market closed.
