It remains Cameroon’s first-ever Olympic gold medal in any sport: on 30 September 2000 in Sydney, the national football team beat Spain in the final, 2-2 after extra time, then 5-3 on penalties.
On the pitch that day: Samuel Eto’o, Patrick Mboma, Geremi Njitap — and a 16-year-old goalkeeper, Idriss Carlos Kameni, who became the youngest footballer ever to win Olympic gold. Africa completed a back-to-back feat, four years after Nigeria’s own triumph in Atlanta.
