More than 60 million years old, the rainforest of Korup National Park survived the ice ages and ranks among the oldest tropical forests in Africa. The site, located in southwestern Cameroon near the Nigerian border, was officially designated a national park in 1986.

That longevity has produced extraordinary biodiversity: around 410 bird species have been recorded there, nearly a quarter of Africa's primate species find refuge within its borders, and more than 30% of the trees and shrubs growing there are found nowhere else on the continent.
