In the heart of Cameroon’s Mandara Mountains, in the Far North region, the Kapsiki village of Rhumsiki is surrounded by an extraordinary mineral landscape: black rock spires — ancient volcanic plugs exposed by erosion — jut from the ground like fingers pointing to the sky.
The tallest and most photographed of these domes, Kapsiki Peak, rises to 1,224 metres. The site draws hikers and photographers every year, drawn as much by its rock formations as by the culture of the surrounding Mandara villages.
